- Our Vision and Mission
Each year in the Nigeria alone, as many as 10 million youth experience a period of homelessness, and every year more than 50,000 of these young people lose their lives to the streets. Their hope and promise are lost forever unless they find someone – Faizah Foundation – to love and care for them.
At Faizah Foundation, our goal is to inspire homeless and at risk young people to move to safe, stable, and loving places where they can continue to live out their life dreams. In short, we strive to help each young person find “safe places” in their lives.
In order to make this goal a reality, we share a vision for an environment that is truly amazing and energizing, permeating with love everywhere; a culture that inspires and transforms the young people we serve … and that also transforms each of us who work here.
We see the fruits of our hard and smart work in the form of meaningful, tangible results for our kids; results such as emotional and physical healing, new life skills, living wage jobs, resiliency, acceptance to college, positive relationships, improved self-confidence, stable housing, and so much more. These results move our kids forward in their lives; they also inspire and inform us.
We strive to become experts in the work we do. We enthusiastically and firmly grasp, practice, and share evidence-based youth development strategies; we embrace and utilize data to breathe spirit and intelligence into our work and to continuously improve.
Through it all, we welcome and serve with loving, open arms; we work hard to help our young people find safe, loving places in their lives; we rejoice in their successes; we shed tears in and suffer their pain; we find inspiration and energy in our community; we celebrate our work; and we thank God for the opportunity to serve as instruments of His peace.
Our Mission and Vision Are Governed by Five Basic Principles
Immediacy
Kids come to us in crisis. Immediately and without question, we meet their basic human needs—a nourishing meal, a shower, clean clothes, medical attention, and a safe place away from the danger of the street.
Sanctuary
The kids who come to us are often frightened and mistrustful. We protect them from the perils of the street. Youngsters can grow only when they feel safe and secure.
Value Communication
Lying, cheating, and stealing are common survival tools on the street. We teach kid by example that caring relationships are based on trust, respect, and honesty.
Structure
Kids on the street never know how they will get their next meal or where they will sleep. We provide a regular schedule that gives them the stability they need in order to focus on the future.
Choice
Young people often feel powerless to control their lives, and fall into a self-defeating cycle of failure. We encourage kids to believe in themselves and to make serious choices about their futures.
Faizah Foundation Mission Statement:
We who recognize God’s providence and fidelity to His people are dedicated to living out His covenant among ourselves and those children we serve, with absolute respect and unconditional love. That commitment calls us to serve suffering children of the street, and to protect and safeguard all children. Just as Christ in His humanity is the visible sign of God’s presence among His people, so our efforts together in the covenant community are a visible sign that effects the presence of God, working through the Holy Spirit among ourselves and our kids.
